CML: Gross mortgage lending up 24% in March

According to data published today by the Council of Mortgage Lenders:

"Gross mortgage lending was an estimated £11.5 billion in March, a 24% rise from £9.3 billion in February and a 3% rise from £11.2 billion in March 2009..."

CML: Mortgage market sees modest recovery


According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders:

"January was extremely weak due to one-off factors such as the effect of the end of the stamp-duty exemption in December 2009 and the severe winter weather..."

Halifax council tax offer returns for homebuyers


Halifax today announces the return of its offer available for homemovers and first time buyers:

"Designed to help with the costs of buying a new home, the offer means the lender will pay half of the first year's council tax bill, up to a maximum of £750..."

CML: Gross mortgage lending increased £9bn


Data published today by the Council of Mortgage Lenders shows:

"Gross mortgage lending in February increased to an estimated £9.2 billion, a 6% rise from £8.7 billion in January..."

CML urges the government to clarify how it will deal with housing demand

Council of Mortgage Lenders has produced a Budget submission:

"At the moment we cannot see how to square the circle between increasing demand for housing, constraints on the necessary finance to deliver it, the repayment of £300 billion of lending support between 2011 and 2014..."

Gross mortgage lending falls 32%


According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders:

"Gross mortgage lending declined to an estimated £9.1 billion in January, a 32% fall from £13.4 billion in December and a 21% fall from £11.5 billion in January 2009..."

CML: Stamp duty rush caused 2yr December high in first-time buyers


According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders:

"The number of loans to first-time buyers hit a two-year high in December 2009, driven by a rush to buy properties in the £125,000 - £175,000 bracket before the year-end stamp duty concession expired..."

CML: Mortgage arrears and possessions declined


According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders, mortgage arrears and possessions declined in the forth quarter of 2009:

"Mortgage lenders took 10,200 properties into possession in the fourth quarter of 2009 - 13% lower than in the third quarter, and 2% down on the fourth quarter of 2008..."

Buy-to-let lending rises


The CML have released Buy-to-Let lending figures today which show that buy-to-let lending has picked up towards the end of last year:

"New buy-to-let lending increased for the second consecutive quarter in the last three months of 2009
